PNC Place Opens as Greater Washington Regional Headquarters
Green construction leader surpasses 100 LEED®-certified projects
Twelve-story building with three-story Climate Wall earns platinum LEED certification
WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) today announced that it has surpassed 100 green-certified building projects with the grand opening of its Greater Washington regional headquarters, PNC Place.

PNC has 104 buildings LEED®-certified by the United States Green Building Council, including 84 certified as new construction, more than any company on Earth.

Located at 800 17th Street, just 500 yards from the White House, PNC Place offers 350,000 square feet of office space and retail, topped by a 15,000 square foot Eco-Skygarden covering half its roof. A new PNC Bank branch shares the street-level mezzanine with a glass bridge through the lobby. The bridge passes a three-story Climate Wall of constantly falling water that helps control temperature and humidity in the lobby, while a Green Wall of living plants below helps enhance air quality.
PNC offices on the 12th floor host the Greater Washington arm of The PNC Legacy Project. The collection of artifacts from PNC predecessor Riggs National Bank includes a check signed by Abraham Lincoln, and recognizes Riggs' history as "The Bank of Presidents." PNC entered Greater Washington by acquiring Riggs in 2005.
PNC expects two-thirds of PNC Place to house office tenants. Its garage holds 136 parking spaces, and bicycle commuters may take advantage of the building's showers and locker rooms.
The PNC Bank branch in the building is a PNC Green Branch® location, designed to take advantage of natural light and reduce energy consumption. Branch customers will be greeted at the concierge desk, where PNC employees can provide general information and guidance. Multiple ATMs and an Internet Cafe with Web accessible computers are available to customers who prefer self-service or online banking. Interactive plasma screens in the branch allow customers to explore the PNC Legacy Project. The branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
